Iterative Sketching

From “Problem Solvers¨ in Drawing for the Absolute and Utter Beginner

If you see something you know will give you trouble, practice that portion on scrap paper until you feel you’ve learned the shapes a bit.

This applies especially to attempting to convey shapes in contour drawings (refer to 20241102175313-Scale_and_Proportion_of_Drawing). It is best when one sees shapes that one knows will give oneself trouble to practice drawing it via scrap paper prior to continuing to draw it on the original or initial yet to be completed drawing.

Disregard perfection

This practice should not aim for perfection with each drawing, but should rather iterate quick attempts at approximating the shape, adjusting further and further with each iteration. The disregard for perfection, accuracy or precision is what makes the practice drawings sketches.
