Copy-Editing and Running Heads

When preparing the text for the typesetter, running heads may turn out to be too long for the given page size. One way of dealing with this is creating short forms of the titles or headings in the given typescript to be used as running heads (refer to 20240908151947-Publishing_Vocabulary):

If short forms need to be used, in order to fit across the page, provide a typed list giving the wording for each running head, including prelims and endmatter, with the essential capitalization, spelling and punctuation. The list should be headed by the author’s name and short book title, and may be divided into columns.

As mentioned above, the original titles and headings may be listed with their corresponding short forms in columnar fashion.
